Asked by Maninder on Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Hi,

I plan to drive from Bangalore to Pune in my WagonR. Appreciate inputs on route and road condition. There seem to be two routes from Bangalore to Pune: via Huble/Belgaum and via Hosapet/solapur. Which route is better?

i am not sure i am replying fast enough.both routs are exellent.but i will sugest mumbai-banglore highway and not the one from solapur.bcoz even though both are in exellent condition solapur way is just an upgraded old way while mumbai banglore is much more sofasticated structure. either way it is good and u have a descent car too

Best would be travel via Hubli / Belgaum. There is a beautiful small forest on the way 300 kms from Bangalore by the name Rane-Beddur ... 15 kms away from the highway.

Another beautiful route is via Mangalore ... Udupi ... Karwar ... Goa ... try that if have lot of time on hand.

Driving through the forests around Hubli/Beagaum is enchanting.

Tapola is a beautiful get-away near Satara (110 kms before Pune) ... presents a lot of scenic beauty.

Have a pleasant journey.

Hi Maninder, I drive from Pune-Blr_Pune regularly and the only advisable route NH4 is as under. The roads are excellent except for certain stretches from Chitradurga to Hubli. But mostly Vgood.
Pune- Satara- Kohlapur- Belgaum- Dharwad- Hubli-
-Chitradurga- Tumkur- Bangalore -----All NH4
You can easily do it in 12-13hrs i.e. My parents who are 80yr old plus do it in 12hrs as well.
Pls do write if you have any queries.
Drive safe and all the best

Route via Hubli-Belgaum is awesome. I often reach speeds over 130 Kmph in my Santro. Driven almost 10+ times on this route now.

Two important thing to keep watch out for:
1. People might suddenly come onto the road from either side..so for safety sake, be in the middle lane.
2. Oncoming traffic many times come on the wrong side of the road. Image you are at 120+ Kmph on a turn and suddenly see a truck coming on from opposite direction to you on your side of the road. This has happened to me many times with all kinds of vehicles like trucks, government buses(yes, you read it right), tracktors, bullcarts etc.

Drive safely and take breaks every 2-3 hours. Helps do away with fatigue.

Have a safe journey....

Do prefer NH4, its a very nice drive. Also the divider s covered by small bushes, so not straining for night driving as well. However till you hit NH4, the road condition is not very good. Kanarnatak state highways are bumpy and single lane. If you are travelling with family, not much options for a drive break and snacks, so do carry fruits.

Maninder,
Solapur road is a bit narrow and the road condition is not that good.
I would suggest you to take Huble/Belgaum route which is good.
