We are planning to go to Kangra from Delhi by our car . I have searched on net and found 2 road routes; one is via Pathankot and other is through Chandigarh.
My Query relates to the exact distance/route to Kangra, and which route to take? Also, if any of you guys have been on this route then what would be the interesting places enroute?

Kangra in Himachal Pradesh
Hi, There are couple of routes from Kangra to Dalhousie:- Listing the same:-
From Kangra go to Dramman and then to sihunta - Tunnuhatti - Banikhet - and finally dalhousie. The route from Dramman to Sihunta really have some very sharp turns and the road is comparatively narrow also, take this route only if you are a good driver on a hilly route.
From Kangra go to Nurpur - from here to dunera - tunuhatti - Banikhet and finally dalhousie. you can takle this route as the turns are not that sharp and the road is also pretty decent.
Let me know if this solves your query.Report Abuse
Thanks a lot for yur help on this one . Let me plan the route keeping above in mind . Also one follow-up query
. What is the shortest/best route to Dalhousie from Kangra .
HI, i read both the answers above, infact the best route that i would suggest is:-
Go grom Delhi to Chandigarh. From Chandigarh to Ropar. From Ropar take the route to Hoshairpur. From Hoshairpur take the route to Mubarkpur, then Bharvain, Dalhiara, Dehra and Finally kangra. infact in this route you need not touch Jullandhar.
if you talk about route from Jullandhat to Pathankot, it is very pathetic. i am a regular commuter on the route i suggested and have explored all the routes and found the one above the best.
..the route via Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur should be the quickest if not the shortest route to reach Kangra, even I think so... had it not been for the road broadening work being carried out on NH 1A between Jalandhar and Pathankot..the route via Pathankot, Nurpur, Nagrota would have been equally good to take. ....A few-words on the Chandigarh route.. you take NH22 at Ambala for Chandigarh and thereafter move north-westwards on NH21 past Ropar to Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib before reaching Una and Mubarakpur at which point you enter the hills. Both Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib enroute are famous Gurudwaras that r worth a visit if yure passing that way..also a little off the road you can sightsee the mammoth Bhakra Nangal dam on the river Sutlej... so more to sightsee along the Chandigarh route and not that much long a route to take, I assure u Report Abuse
Hello mate the best route is that to take GT ROAD TILL JALANDHAR AND WHEN U REACH JALANDHAR TAKE RIGHT TOWARDS HOSHIARPUR WHICH IS 40 KMS FROM JALANDHAR FROM THERE TAKE CHINTPURNI ROAD WHICH GOES STARIGHT TO KANGRA VIA HOSHIARPUR THEN TO CHITPURNI MANDIR THEN TO DEHRA GOPIPUR THEN TO KANGRA. I HAVE TRAVELLED ON THIS ROAD QUITE A FEW TIMES AND THIS IS ATLEAST 70 KMS SHORTER THEN IF U GO VIA PATHANKOT ALSO THE ROAD FROM JALANDHAR TO PATHANKOT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND THAT 100 KM PATCH WILL TAKE U 4 HRS TO CROSS SO THIS IS THE BEST AND NEAREST WAY TO REACH KANGA VIA ROAD IF U NEED ANY FURTHER ADVICE DO LET ME KNOW
