The Sindhu Darshan Festival:

A great Trans-Himalayan river, it is one of the longest rivers in the world with an astonishing length of 2900 km. It starts from South-western Tibet (Originates from the Mansarovar in Tibet) and enters in to India near to Leh which is there in Ladakh territory. This name "Sindhu" came from Sanskrit from India Veda (Rig Veda).and it is also know as Indus by English name.

As a king leads other warriors, so does Sindhu same and leads other rivers… Rich in good steeds is Sindhu, rich in gold, nobly fashioned, rich in ample wealth."

Sindhu is also a symbol of strength and power for ancient Indian civilization and now it is thousands years togather.

What is Indus Darshan Festival:

Sindhu Darshan Festival is organized by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir with the support of the Ministry of tourism and culture annually at Leh in the month of May or June.

The "Sindhu Darshan" festival was started to focus attention on the heritage of the ancient Indian Civilization and symbol of multi-dimensional culture that 'Sindhu' symbolizes. The Sindhu Darshan Festival aims at projecting communal harmony and peaceful. This festival is also a symbolic salute to the brave soldiers of India who have bravely fought the odds at Siachin,Kargil & other war places. The festival is like a kaleidoscope of Indian culture and an exciting array of performing arts being brought together at an exciting place. The first time when this Festival was organised in October 1997, over seventy people from all over India had traveled to Leh for a Darshan and Puja of the Great River Sindhu.

A ritual prayer is performed by 50 senior Lamas on the banks of the Sindhu. A host of cultural programmers are performed by the representatives of various states. The celebrations on the banks end with lunch for all the participants.

This festival takes palace just opposite to Shy Palace, on the bank of River Great River  Sindhu.

Indian Postal Depart introduced ticket on this festival during 1999.

Hey Manish!... very informative and I'm really surprised to know that just 70 people turned up for the festival in 1997! The number must have gone up by now I believe. Thanks for sharing.
