Holalkere is in the Chitradurga dist, it is a Taluk headquarters, of Karnataka state. Holalkere  is a place where rainfall is very scanty. But this sleepy little village is famous for its ‘Prasanna Ganapathy mandir’. In the year 1962, a student studying in M.M.High.School, in  10 standard won a Gold medal.

The sitting Ganapathy is installed by the ‘Palegars of Chitradurga Nayak dynasty’. It is 20 ft  (6 mtrs) tall and at the back of the head a nice hair dress is done. Devotees come here and apply butter to the hair of Lord Ganesh. The same can be applied to our hair, and there is a strong belief that our hair grows in plenty.

People come from far away places,  to visit this temple and pray the lord Ganesh.  Earlier there was no temple built here,  and the Ganapathy was in the open yard. Later when lightning struck, the villagers erected a Temple structure,  and Gopuram in the front.

Holalkere town is nealy 4 miles away from The Railway Station. The irony was when the proposal to draw the railway track came,  the elites of the village  were afraid of inviting the kalara  epidemic ; which made them to take this tough decision. This hampered the progress of the town, and still it is backward in many respects.

One can reach This Ganesh temple from Holalkere bus circle with a riksha. Holalkere is next to Chikkajajur railway station, which is just 20 km away. Davanagere is 37 k.m away. Malladihalli is also near by from Holalkere railway station. There are two places which are very nearby, one is Malenahalli, and the other is Nulenur. Both the places There is math of Shankaralinga bhagawan Maharaj's Ashram,  and temples.

Useful Info

Recommendations - Stuff you must See & Do :From there one can go to Nulenur math, and Malenahalli Ranganatha temple.
