A major town on way to Gangotri, Uttarkashi is a pilgrimage site and headquarters of district Uttarkashi. A trekking hub, Uttarkashi is a good place to go for a quiet holiday. One can enjoy lovely views, take long walks, visit various temples, head for a trek or simply relax and recharge.

Uttarkashi town is situated at an altitude of 1,550 meters on the right banks of river Bhagirathi. Uttarkashi as the name suggests is often called the Kashi of the extreme north.
