The mud volcano at Baratang is the only Active Mud Volcano in India. Unlike the Volcano at Barren Island also in the Andamans spewing hot lava, the mud volcano spews mud which is not hot. The surroundings however was tangibly much cooler than the immediate vicinity of the volcano. Since the terrain was highly unstable, people walked gingerly around the volcano. It was purely walking at our own risk. The mud spewed out doesnt support any vegetation hence the epicenter was barren.
