Thekkady happens to be in Idukki District & is a beautiful small place. It is green everywhere & very quiet & serene. I just loved this place. You can get the exotic smell of various spices where ever you go. There are some really good hotels around & you can buy spices from here if you wish to. It is not a hill station but is certainly a look upon tourist spot. Believe me if you wanna have a quiet holiday this is the place to be. You can go for bamboo rafting, forest visit etc if you are an adventurous person.

Dont miss the early morning 1st boat ride at Periyar for best wildlife viewing. Also must do is a forest trek with the local guide for 4 - 8hrs. You will see the largest butterfly troides minos, giant malabar squirrel, elephants and many other fauna.
