Its nice to see u are visiting Gangtok. Its a great place. Infact the whole of Sikkim is great. I visited Sikkim last june.so i will give u some insights. u will probably be visiting Rumtek monastery, flower show , museum, a Stupa near the museum , Psango lake, Baba mandir, ganesh mandir and the sanctuary. Also ther will be a cable car trip in Gangtok city which is not that impressive. Now in Gangtok to visit there are two more spots, one is Nathula which is Indo china border. It can be visited on specific days like wed and sat with special permit which is about 400 bucks per head. Along with it there is Yumthang valley which is about 250 kms from Gangtok which also requires special permit. If possible do not miss this. About baba mandir it is mandir about some army official a legend u tends to roam the area and keep a watch on the army. Gangtok has two markets a down bazaar ( i dunno its name) and a Laal bazaar. U will get good shoes (KMorean) of addidaas and all. Some good trax of Nike and all. Do purchase them. But as u will be going from NJP (Jalpaguiri) u might get fgood bargains there too. Try and shop possible in early morning hours at it is their Boni time and hey will give u good rates. If u go in evening its hard u will get a good deal. Gangtok is very temperate, so dont take much wollen clothes only a few when u visit Nathula or Psango. Psango lake road is always exposed to landslides so u need luck to see it. Use plain clothes. Sikkim is made up of round and round roads so u may take time to adjust to it.great. There a local taxis available from Gangtok for sight seeing. Bargain unless u get a good deal. Sikkim govt has strict raod rules so u have to walk all the way to the taxi stand to get ur deal which can be painstaking climbing up and down. U will predominantly see a Nepali influence in teh region. The songs played, language all is Nepali. There is nothing called as a Sikkimese lang. I mean its there but u will be hard pressed to find it. Food is good and u can enjoy some good delicacies if u area non veg. Here is many Hotels, I stay on Hotel Medhabi. Location: Baluakhani, near C.P.W.D. office. not bad. I hope the review was helpful Happy travelling and hope u write one review about ur experiences.
