Bhojwasa is a tiny settlement on the trekking route to Gaumukh – the source of the holy river Ganga. Located at an altitude of 3800 meters, Bhojwasa is 4 km before the Gaumukh Glacier. One has to trek 14 km along the Bhagirathi River from Gangotri to reach Bhojwasa.
The trek takes anywhere between 5 – 10 hrs depending upon the pace of a trekker. Bhojwasa falls under the Gangotri National Park and the number of tourists inside the park is regulated. On a particular day not more than 150 persons are allowed to enter the park. The permit for the same can be obtained from the office of the Deputy Director Gangotri National Park, Uttarkashi. Trekkers, planning to visit higher reaches of Tapovan, Nandanvan and beyond set base camp at Bhojwasa.
