Unakoti is one of the well known tourist and religious destination in Tripura. Unakoti means one less than a Crore (10 Million). It is believed that there are 99,99,99,999 sculptures of Lord Shiva, hence the name Unakoti. The site dates back to the 8th Century. Mythology has it that Lord Shiva along with other gods on his way to Kashi halted here for a night. He ordered all of them to wake up before
sunrise and when none of them did, He cursed all and they turned into stone images.
