Not many tourists may have heard of Palitana but a few travellers do. And those who know about the place always have the desire to visit this religious city located in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. Palitana is a major pilgrimage centre for Jains. It is said there are more than 1000 temples located on the Shatrunjaya hills. Anandji Kalyanji Trust of the Kasturbai Lalbhai group manages the temples in Palitana.
Of all the temples in Palitana, the most famous is the one dedicated to 1st Trithankar, Lord Adinath. Besides the main temple of Lord Adinath, there is a cluster of Jain temples, built over a period of 900 years, from 11th century onwards. Most of the temples are located atop Shatrunjaya hills. You have to climb 3200 steps to reach the cluster of temples atop the hill. < + more about Palitana
