If history and architecture is what you love, it is worth visiting Fathepur Sikri - the first planned city of the Mughal Empire. Fatehpur Sikri is located 25 km from Agra, the city of Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh. The city was built by the greatest of all Mughal emperors – Akbar – near Sikri, which was part of Fatheabad.
The history of Fatehpur Sikri is quite interesting. It was built with labour of love by Akbar. The city was built in honour of Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chisti, who lived in a cavern on the ridge at Sikri. The saint predicted the birth of Akabar’s son, who was named Prince Salim after him. Salim later came to known as Jehangir.
