The capital city of Nagaland, Kohima is among the most beautiful and lesser known tourist destinations in India. Kohima is a picturesque town and a lovely hill station located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. The hill station is home to the brave and tough Naga tribes.
The battle for Kohima was one of the turning points in World War II for the Japanese offensive in India. Kohima has a moderate temperature and located at the top of a hill ridge. Permits (ILPs – Inner Line Permits from the state govt.) are needed for both Indians and foreigners to enter Kohima (Restricted Area Permit from the Home Affairs, Govt of India).
