Gurgaon is perhaps the most popular and well known satellite town of Delhi. Located to the west of Delhi, Gurgaon is hardly 20 km away from the heart of Delhi. It has seen a phenomenal growth in the last decade and is hub of the multinational companies. Gurgaon is the 6th largest city of Haryana and is the financial and industrial hub of the state.
A few decades back Gurgaon was nothing but a parched mass of land extending either side of the Old Gurgaon Road. But with the rapid development in the last 15 years, Gurgaon has become one of the most sought after business destinations in the National Capital Region. In fact it is often called by many as the call centre capital of the country. So much so according to a survey by Business Today Magazine, it is one of the best cities in the country to work and live.
Like many other Indian towns and cities, Gurgaon too has a mythological connection and it was known as Gurugram or Gurugaon – the village of the Guru, for the city was given to Guru Dronacharya by the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. Over the time Gurugaon changed to Gurgaon.
Today Gurgaon is not a city where people come just to work. It is a city of malls and an exciting destination to have fun. There are more than a dozen shopping malls in Gurgaon, which attract not only the city residents but residents from Delhi and other neighbouring areas.
Ambiance Mall or Ambi Mall as it is called, just next to NH 8 is the largest shopping mall in the country. The mall stands majestically right on the National Highway 8 (NH8) also called as Gurgaon Expressway. If driving down from New Delhi, the mall is on the left hand side just after the Gurgaon toll plaza.
