The erstwhile princely state of Nayagarh, located to the west of Puri district houses several temples. Some of the most popular temple in Nayagarh include the Temple of Goddess Dakshina Kali, Jharadei, Mangala and Sri Jagannath Temple. The place has a fascinating story associated with its birth. The district was founded by Suryamani of Baghela dynasty who had come to Puri on pilgrimage and established his kingdom in Nayagarh.

Legend goes that Suryamani and his brother were attacked by a tiger when they were resting and as a consequence Suryamani ended up killing the tiger. This attracted admiration from the locals which eventually led to the establishment of his kingdom at Nayagarh. Accommodation at Nayagarh is pretty convenient as it houses a number of hotels and guest houses in the Main Road area of the town. Though no five star hotels are available, the existing places have all the modern amenities and offer a comfortable and convenient stay at reasonable price.

The places in and around Nayagarh are a perfect blend of nature with history as is proved by the presence of the famous Baisipali Wildlife Sanctuary and the hot water spring, Tarable. The place with its rich cultural heritage and a myriad of devotional places as well as natural beauty is the perfect destination for all those who are looking for a holiday with a touch of tradition and history.
