Regent is a good option with reasonable rates. I tried a sea fish with less bones, with brinjal added to the curry, which tasted lovely. The hotel Radhuni is budget affair with foreigners too patronizing the joint. For vegetarians Gangaur is recommended. The best veg. thalis are available in an AC environs costing Rs 100 + taxes. For those who enjoy their drink while watching a movie then Light House is the place. It is the only cinema hall with a bar license in the balcony.

Good restaurants at Park Street cater to all people. Chinese is really very good. Rolls can be found all over the city and they come with 'double' or 'single' prep. A double egg, double chicken roll is more like a meal which one can enjoy on the roadside. 12 years ago on my first visit a friend took me to Beyhala area and went to Haji's stand. The biryani which I tasted was out of this world. Till date on my every visit I do make it a point to visit Haji's for that special biryani. A buffet at Sourav's (Sourav Ganguly's restaurant) brings forward Bengali prep food and is worth the price.

If you swear by Chinese cuisine you will simply love Chinatown in Tangra. This place is located off the Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass that hooks up the Eastern suburbs, especially the Salt Lake satellite city, to the main city. Chinatown is replete with tanneries and big and small eating joints-all owned by the expatriate Chinese community settled in this area since the early years of the last century.
