Tata Tea Factory & Museum, Munnar

Last Updated:21 May 2009 0 Comments

Rated #1 out of 14 attractions in Munnar

The tea museum run by the Tata Tea company traces the evolution of the tea industry in Munnar from the 1880s. On display are most interesting items of a bygone era such as photographs, the original tea roller (dating back to 1905), furniture, typewriters, wooden bathtub, manual calculators and EPABX of the 1909 telephone system.

Adjacent to the museum is the tea processing unit.
With permission, one can visit the Tata Tea Factory also. You can see the tea pickers busy with their job of picking up the tea leaves. We met a few of them on the way who were sorting and weighing the tea leaves freshly plucked. These leaves were then bundled and taken to the factory.
