A small town in the south of Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh
, Paonta Sahib is the face of Himachal’s scenic beauty and industrial development. Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, Paonta Sahib is held in high reverence among the Sikh community and is an important place of pilgrimage. Paonta Sahib
is also an important industrial hub with presence of companies like Ranbaxy and Oswal group. Paonta Sahib owes its name to tenth guru of Sikhs Guru Govind Singh and the Sikh leader Band Bahadur.
Earlier the place was known as Paontika. Legend has it that Guru Govind Singh‘s horse stooped at this place on its own and refused to budge. Guru took it as a divine intervention and decided to stay here and wrote many sacred Sikh religious books at this place.

evokes appreciation for the rich legacy of reverend guru. Surrounded by the Sal forest and on the bank of Yamuna River
, Paonta Sahib has a soothing effect on the believers and the tourist alike. This old capital of princely state has an intriguing tale of its own. Sirmouri Tal, not very far from Paonta Sahib was destroyed by the curse of a court dancer. The remains of this town are said to be fallout of the great flood that followed her death.
There is adequate accommodation in Paonta Sahib. Tourists can go for a decent stay in HPTDC Hotel Yamuna and Renuka, PWD Rest House, Mata Bala Sundri Sarai, SFDA Bhawan. Hotel Yamuna and Hotel Renuka are located close to the Poanta Sahib Gurudwara.
