Jeolikot is the small and charming location on the Nainital- Haldwani highway at the distance of 17 km from Nainital. The pristine hamlet is known for its pleasant climate and scenic beauty. Its calm surroundings offer peace of mind and tranquility. It was once the favourite place of renowned mediators like Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo. Kanatal is also home to ancient shrines, cemeteries, and mysterious old ivory – covered cottages.
Set in the folds of the lower Kumaon hills, Jeolikot is famous as a health centre, for its butterflies, and also for honey, mushrooms and fruits, including strawberries and leechies, it produces. Never flooded with tourists, one feels a sense of calmness around these parts. One will not find commercialisation and destruction of natural beauty here.
Gateway to Kumaon's Lake District, Binsar, Kausani, Ranikhet and Corbett National Park, Jeolikot was founded by mega-meditators - Sri Aurbindo and Swami Vivekananda.
One can think of many creative ways to spend their day here. One can visit some ancient temples, a cemetery and other structures pointing to its verdant past. One can go there for great ambience, golf, and tranquility. Trekking in the hills is therapeutic and a lot of fun. Other attractions to this place are bee keeping centers.
