Around 30 km from Chennai is the suburb of Tambaram which is a central hub to a number of frequented destinations within the state of Tamil Nadu. This suburb lies on the national highway that connects Chennai and Trichirapalli. Tambaram is considered a satellite town and is famous for all the educational institutions present in and around its area including many private engineering colleges such as the SRM University along with old prestigious establishments like the Madras Christian College.
Tambaram is divided by the railway line that passes through it into two segments. East Tambaram and West Tambaram there by constitute this suburb which assists a number of villages and suburbs around it such as Agaram, Selaiyur, Madambakkam, Padappai etc. The entire region is therefore of great importance and is often treated as one of the centers for trade and commerce.
