Food in this region is very similar to that available in the rest of Tamil Nadu. Local cuisine constitutes rice based meals. A typical meal contains rice which is had with a number of dishes including Sambar, Rasam, and curd. Cooked vegetables often garnished with coconut or masala are had along with the rice. Pickles are also a common accompaniment to rice. Sweet dishes involve paysam and south Indian favorites such as the Jangiri.
Resorts such as Sterling also have North Indian food available. A typical buffet in some of the resorts should cost around Rs 150 per plate of food. A la carte menu is also available in most hotels. Hotel Hills, a hotel situated in Tirupattur has a special Jain kitchen for those who require Jain food.
Jackfruits are a specialty in this region. Fruits such as guavas and custard apples are also found in abundance during seasons.
