Barog, once just a small pit stop for a traveller on the way to Shimla, today is a destination in itself for those who want peace and solitude. At a height of 1680 meters, Barog is surrounded by pine forests, it has some fine views and walks.
Barog is just off the Shimla – Kalka highway and is 294 km from Delhi. A century ago the Kalka-Shimla toy train stopped at Barong for an hour for a lavish lunch break. The station was named after the engineer Barog. It is famous for its 1,143m long tunnel which is the longest among the 102 on the track.
Barog is a perfect weekend getaway from Delhi, to unwind and relax. The tranquility of this place along with captivating views of the sunrise over the mountains is breath-taking. Barog is an idyllic destination for nature lovers with one of the most perfect views of the marvelously astonishing 'Choordhar Peak'.
The Choor Chandni Peak, which poetically means the 'mountain of the silver bangle'. It is called so because of the shimmering glow of the moon on it, that appears if the mountain has worn bangles.
