It is a part of the Konkan region, which has many long stretches of beautiful and serene virgin beaches. Many of these beaches are un-spoilt and unexplored even by the most ardent tourists. Their uncharacteristic appeal has started drawing people in hordes from far and wide now.
The majestic white sand coastline is bestowed upon with exotic palm groves and mango plantations. The shear amount of beauty, this place has to offer, blows one off the feet. One of the oldest towns in Maharashtra, Shrivardhan is a town of the Peshwas. The famous Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath was born here and was later chosen as the First Peshwa by the Maratha Ruler Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj. Though the capital of Peshwas was Pune, the actual Peshwai started here in 1713 by this accession and continued till 1818. The Peshwa’s continued to rule the Maratha kingdom on behalf of the Kings for over a century till the British overtook them. Shrivardhan is one of the best places to visit in Konkan region and to remember the great Peshwas.
