Gentle winds, soft sands and inviting waters make Shrivardhan (also spelled as Srivardhan) irresistible to beach lovers. The calmness and serenity at the beach is the best thing about this place. It is a part of the Konkan region, which has many long stretches of beautiful and serene virgin beaches. Many of these beaches are un-spoilt and unexplored even by the most ardent tourists. Their uncharacteristic appeal has started drawing people in hordes from far and wide now.

The majestic white sand coastline is bestowed upon with exotic palm groves and mango plantations. The shear amount of beauty, this place has to offer, blows one off the feet. The numerous other attractions like the temples, exotic culinary spread, verdant pastures and bucolic lifestyles of the local fishermen, provide the best combination of an ideal tourist destination.

Many homes serve local food and provide places to stay in Shrivardhan. The list of registered home owners providing bed and breakfast services can be found on the Maharashtra Tourism website.

One of the oldest towns in Maharashtra, Shrivardhan is a town of the Peshwas. The famous Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath was born here and was later chosen as the First Peshwa by the Maratha Ruler Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj. Though the capital of Peshwas was Pune, the actual Peshwai started here in 1713 by this accession and continued till 1818. The Peshwa’s continued to rule the Maratha kingdom on behalf of the Kings for over a century till the British overtook them. Shrivardhan is one of the best places to visit in Konkan region and to remember the great Peshwas.
