One of the most scenic areas of Karnataka's Sahyadri Ranges, Kudremukh National Park is an undulating expanse of hills shrouded with thick greenery. The evergreen forests of the region are source to some of the vital rivers that feed the plains of South India. The misty expanse in monsoon, green hills in clear weather of winter and the cooler high altitude locations in summer keep Kudremukh a charming place round the year.
Once a prime location for mining iron ore, the town of Kudremukh, adjoining the national park, now has an abandoned look. After the supreme court banned mining in the forest, it has been a quieter place where nature is left to itself to rejuvenate from the damages caused by decades of strip mining.
