Ponmudi is a beautiful hill station situated 61 km from Trivandrum city. For all those who are tired of the urban grind, Ponmudi is a welcome idyllic break. It can be covered in a day trip from Trivandrum, much like a trip to Nandi hills from Bangalore.
At a height of 1066 meters, Ponmudi offers cool weather and some enchanting views for the tired traveller coming from the hot and humid city located at sea level. The hill station is situated in the Western Ghats and is a two and a half hour journey by bus from Trivandrum. Buses ply regularly from Thambanoor in Trivandrum to Ponmudi.
As you journey uphill, you are greeted by soothing greens of tea plantations, areca nut trees and spices like clove. The Kallar river flows nearby. While the upper levels have uniform plantation areas, the lower level join the thickly forested areas – home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. Apart from the views, Ponmudi offers adventurers and trekkers a plethora of walking trails and plenty of wildlife photo shoots.
