Dungarpur is a quiescent town about 110 km from south of Udaipur. Founded in 1282 AD by Rawal Veer Singh, it is quite similar in geographical format of a Fort-on-a-hill and town below; this town hosts one of the most amazing forts of the region. Towards the evenings it even looks haunted with bats emerging from crevices across the ceilings. In the days gone by the Bhil tribals were in control of the region. However, after Rawals of Vagad conquered this control passed on to them. Rawal Bhoochand constructed most of the present palace as it stand today. Today it is a town with a secular population spanning all religions.
