Kausani is new love of the modern traveller, someone, who is ready
to look beyond Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie and Nainital; and is happy to
spend some time in the lap of nature with basic facilities. Kausani is
located in the pristine climes of the Kumaon Himalayas. It is a picture
post card destination and often called the mini Switzerland of India.
Kausani is 53 km from Almora and 110 km from Nainital.
is set at an altitude of over 1890 meters above sea level. It is
surrounded by snow-covered mountains and is an eye candy for a nature
lover. So much so when Mahatma Gandhi visited Kausani, he was bowled
over by its dazzling natural beauty. Kausani is also the birth place of
the famous poet Sumitranandan Pant.
It is no wonder that
Kausani is well known for its beauty and spectacular views of the snow
laden peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nandakot. Besides enjoying the
panoramic views of the Kumaon Himalayas, one can also experience the
changing moods of the Himalayan peaks.
Kausani is not a
typical tourist destination with many places to sight see. It is a
wonderful place to relax and soak in the beauty of nature. If you wish
to do more: head out to check out the tea plantation that has a factory
and garden open for public. Besides this, there is little to do in
