Part of a vast forest range in the Old Mysore region adjoining Bandipur National Park, Nagarahole National Park is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere, the largest contiguous stretch of forest in South India. It is home to rich wildlife that includes the big cats, and has been known as the place where some of the important wildlife researches on tigers have taken place in India. Just 5 hours from Bangalore, it is an excellent break for a weekend in the nature.
Nagarahole in Kannada can be translated as the 'snake stream' – which is the name of a stream that meanders inside the forest. The park covers an area of 644 square kilometers.
