Gondal Little History:

Gondal is fortified town and located on the bank of river Gondali. Gondal history starts way before 17th Century. In earlier Raj days Gondal was know as a Paris of Saurashtra.  Gondal is a testimony to the great visionary ruler Sir Bhagwatsinhiji Maharaj, who introduced lots of social reforms, planned the development of Gondal town and created Gondal as a model state of Saurashtra in late 19th and early 20th century. Gondal was capital of the former princely State of Gondal, which was ruled by the kings of Jadeja Rajputs, till the independence of India.

Sir Bhagwatsinhji's was highly educated and made extensive tours to Europe to enhance his aesthetic taste, which can be seen in the architecture and planning of public buildings, parks, bazaars, palaces built during his time.

King Sir Bhagwatsinhiji was known as king of common man. He took lots of interest to develop Gujarat Dictionary, which is Gujarati to Gujarati meaning and known as Bhagwadgomandal, which took 30 years to complete and still there with City library of Gondal which is located at city centre, cemented double lane road with dividers, which are still there after so many years.

King Sir Bhagwatsinhiji's town planning was amazing, he had planed so many things which you can not find today's developed cities, Such as under ground gutters, rain water gutters, light post fencing to valuable, Town hall, Library with general section and kids section, library have very rich varieties of books. Two different Bazars one for local purchase and bulk purchases. A general hospital too.

You will find very unique milage stone in Gondal town and  state, those are arrnaged in such a manner, one can put their load on it easily, take rest and without any help he/she can put local back on head.

Due to this design and facilities, it was known as Paris of Saurastra.
