How to reach Chennai
The gateway to South India, Chennai is perfect as the focal point to start exploring rest of Tamil Nadu. Well connected to destinations across India, as well as internationally. The city has an airport that caters to domestic and international carriers and also has good inter-city transport facilities.

Air: Anna International Terminal and Kamaraj Domestic Terminal are situated about 12 Km from the center of the city.

Rail: Chennai has two major railway stations. Chennai Central (George town) connecting Chennai with most major destinations around India, while Egmore is the point of arrival and departure for trains within Tamil Nadu or from Kerala.

Road: Chennai is also well connected with neighbouring states by a good road network.

Local transport in Chennai
Within the city, regular buses are available for travel to almost any point in the state. Buses to Chennai arrive at the Moffussil bus stand, situated in the suburb of Koyambedu, over 10 km west of the centre. Chennai is also well connected with city trains that run every 15 minutes between 4:30 am and 11 pm. The stops are Beach (opposite the GPO), Fort, Park (for Central), Egmore, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Mambalam (for T Nagar and silk shops), Saidapet (for Little Mount Church), Guindy, St Thomas Mount and Trisulam (for the airport). Traveling by taxi and auto rickshaw involves a lot of haggling over the prices, and the drivers are usually not very keen to use the meter. Be prepared.

Best time to visit Chennai: Between November and March.
