Things to do in Ooty

• Traverse through the countryside as you hitch a ride on board the Nilgiris toy train as it moves from Ooty to Mettupalayam, at the foot of the Nilgiris at a speed of 10.4 km per hour covering the 46 km journey in four and a half hour & breezing through 208 curves and 13 tunnels!! And yes, do make sure you have your camera in hand; you may not want to miss the amazing scenery especially between Kallar and Adderley.
  Go for long walks, pony rides and hikes.
• Visit a tea plantation and if possible a tea factory.
• Catch a round of golf at the Gymkhana Golf course. Membership or Introduction is required
• Visit the local Army cantonment - the Madras Regimental Center and the DSSC (Defense Services Staff College).
• Visit the terrace farmed cabbage fields around Ooty.
• Try your hands at some adventure sports viz. trout fishing at the Avalanche and Sandinalla lakes (prior permission from the Fisheries Department required); para gliding from the Kalhatty Ghats and hand gliding from Doddabetta peak or simply go on a trek and explore the town- the Nilgiris are a trekker's paradise.
• Participate in one of the many fairs and carnivals that take place throughout the year- the Tea & Tourism Festival in Nilgiris in November, the Taipoosam in the Elk Hill Murugan Temple and the Bookkapurma Mariamman annual fest - in February. The Mariamman Temple Car Festival at, Ooty & Coonoor in April and the Boat Races, Summer Festival and the Dog Show in May.
