Visit the park. You should have at least two trips to the park --  one trip early in the morning and another in the evening. The birds and animals you get to see in these trips will vary.

The park can be visited using any one of the following modes of transport : hire bi-cycle, hire a ricksaw where the ricksaw puller will double up  as guide, ride a tanga or ride the electric car. The best way to enjoy the trip is to ride a bi-cycle. These are available at the park gate for Rs.25/- per trip. Ricksaws will cost you Rs.50/- per hour. A typical trip will be of at least 4 hours. You can also choose to walk if you are fit enough to do 7 / 8 km walk.

You can also opt to visit the the town in the afternoon. This should be done on a ricksaw. The worst part is that you will have to spend the evening staying put in the hotel.

You can cover Bharatpur in two ways: i) As a weekend break from Delhi where your trip will be Delhi-Bharatpur-Delhi. ii) You can also include it in your Delhi - Agra trip by extending it as Delhi-Agra-Fatehpur Sikri-Bharatpur-Delhi. This can also be covered in a Delhi-Agra-Jaipur trip.

Excursions From Bharatpur

Deeg :32 km from Bharatpur is the Deeg Fort. Standing majestically over a slight elevation, the fort built by Raja Suraj Mal is surrounded by impressive moats, ramparts and gateways. While most of the interiors are now in ruins, the watch tower still stands tall. A gun captured from the Agra fort & canons captured from Ahmad Shah Abdali in 1761 A.D are the other attaractions.

Deeg Palace: North of Bharatpur is a well preserved palace that makes for an idyllic retreat with it’s with beautiful gardens, sparkling fountains and very interesting buildings like the Bengal Chamber with its red trellis designs and sloping arches; the Gopal Bhawan, an imaginatively designed building complex built in 1760 AD with beautifully gardens at its entrance and the rear and overlooking the Gopal Sagar. A black marble throne installed on a pedestal in the form of a swing is another attraction of the Bhawan. Other attractions of the palace include the Kishan Bhawan –a large water reservoir which feeds the fountains spread across the palace gardens; the suraj Bhavan, the Nand Bhwan and the purana Bhawan.

Fatehpur Sikri: 22 km from Bharatpur is Fathepur Sikri- the erstwhile capital of Akbar. Built by Emperor Akbar to express his gratitude to Salim Chisti, this UNESCO World Heritage Site ahs some unique architectural marvels like the Bulund Darwaza, the Panch Mahal, Jahangiri Mahal etc. Fatehpur Sikri was the Mughal capital between 1571 and 1585 before chronic waster scarcity led to its abandonment.

Band Baretha: An old wildlife reserve, 650 km from Bharatpur city, animals like sambhur, chital, blue bull, wild boar, hyena and leopard still roam the area while 200 rare species of birds make this area a bird watcher paradise.

Kaman:Kaman or Kamaban is an old town situated in the north of Bharatpur whose historicity can be traced to the Mahabharata. A sacred place and a place of pilgrimage, Kaman so named for the numerous Kadhamba Trees that can be found in the area once formed a part of Braj area where Lord Krishna spent his early life. The area wears a festive look in the month of Bhadon when a large number of pilgrims visit the place on account of Banyatra.  Another highlight of the area aret remains of a temple /mosque consisting of 84 pillars, named Chourasi Khamaba.

Bayana: 45 kms from Bharatpur
