Out of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country, two are enshrined in the temples of Ujjain and Omkareshwar. You may start your journey from Ujjain, which is 55 km from Indore. Ujjain is situated on the banks of the Shipra. Ujjain was earlier known as Ujjayini. Here you may visit the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, which houses one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Head to Omkareshwar the next day, which is approx. 212 km from Ujjain.
You may break journey en-route at Indore, which 55 km from Ujjain. Indore was established the brave Holkar Queen, Rani Ahilyabai.
It is situated on the banks of the rivers Saraswati and Khan. Popular places to see in Indore include Indore Museum and the Jain Kaanch Mandir.
Depart to Omkareshwar, which is 153 km from Indore. You may stop/stay en-route at Maheshwar. Maheshwar is a holy town situated on the banks of the Narmada. The town is also famous for the Maheshwari sarees.
Omkareshwar is 62 km from Maheshwar. It is situated at the confluence of the Narmada and Kaveri. Here, besides, visiting the other places of interest, you must visit the temple of Shri Omkar Mandhata, which houses the Jyotirlinga.
