 Malshej Ghat is a mountain range approx 800m, about 3 hrs drive from Mumbai along the Kalyan Murbad Rd going to Ahmednagar. In the monsoons it is a veritable waterfall paradise as the entire hill side is covered with millions of waterfalls and mist.  Some are so big that they fall over the road.  There is a stretch just before the Malshej Ghat small tunnel where there are 3 such waterfall canopies over the road and it is quite a thrill to walk this length, watching out for traffic of course as it is the Kalyan Nagar State Highway.  Absolutely avoid during monsoon weekends as the area is full of drunken male groups who misbehave.  But on monsoon weekdays it is paradise.

 Enjoy and revel in the multitude of waterfalls.  Caution: Avoid on monsoon weekends when the place is full of hordes of drunken unruly all male groups. Weekdays in the rains are perfect.  Climb upto Harishchandragad with a local guide, walk into and explore the dense jungles along the stream paths, walk along the plateau and experience the boomerang effect near the edge.  Just enjoy nature at its marvellous monsoon best.

Enjoy nature.  Climb Harishchandragad or the surrounding mountains. Walk to Pimpalgaon lake and spot flamingoes if lucky, more chances in Sewree or Trombay though.  Enjoy all the wildflowers in the surrounding jungles.  There is a pleasant gushing stream near Vaisakhare where you can easily walk through the forests.  In June and July the habenaria ground orchids and epiphytic pink rhynchostylis rhetusa are in bloom, as are the turmerics, rock balsams, begonias and other wild flowers that arrive in procession until November. Trek to Naneghat on the well defined path. Go on to Junnar and Shivneri Fort, Manekdoh reservoir, and Bhimashankar. Mind the traffic as it is the main State highway from Kalyan to Nagar.   Remember to avoid monsoon weekends, especially if going with your family.

 This is a nature lovers delight especially during and shortly after the monsoons.  A plethora of wild flowers attract all sorts of butterflies which are a delight to observe.  Birds abound but its difficult to spot them in the foliage. Early mornings or late evenings in dry season are sure to yield wildlife sightings.  For the hassled person from busy Mumbai, a trip during the monsoons with the mist and the waterfalls everywhere is sure to delight.  Wish people would not come there to drink, and throw their filthy bottles by the roadside.  Thats why I stress yet again, avoid on monsoon weekends.  Weekdays will never disappoint. Tip: Try and go there immediately after a spell of heavy rain for the best waterfalls and canopy effect.  Minus point, roads become very bad during the monsoons.  The Ulhas river enroute is also prone to flooding so check all these conditions before doing the trip.
