The manmade star shaped Lake of Berijam for its crystal clear water; the Kodai Lake for boating; the centrally located Byrant Park and the calm and quite Chettiar Park for their amazing variety of flowers, ferns and vegetables.

The waterfalls of Pambar (4kms away from Kodaikanal), Bear Shola (where bears once reportedly came to drink water), Silver Cascade and the Thalaiyar (one of the highest falls in India, with their 975ft sheer drop) will delight any nature lover. While the various trekking routes will keep the trekker busy with their sheer number of choices. The trek to Dolphin Nose and the 3-4 trek of 40 Miles Rounded from Berijem Lake to the Kerala border Vandaraw via ‘Poondi’, Kavunji, and Kukkal is a treat for their breathtaking views of the hills, plains and cascading waterfalls and zigzagging streams.

The Shenbaganur Museum for tits outstanding collection of more than 300 exotic orchid species and artifacts of the ancient Paliyans tribes; the stiff cliffs of Pillar Rocks with its deep hidden ravines; the Coaker's Walk for its views of the enchanting valleys; the Solar Physical Laboratory (the only one in the country); the 2466 m Vembadi Peak; the prehistorically rich Dolmen circle , the Guna and the Kukkal caves and the Kurinji Andavar Temple( dedicated to Lord Muruga & named so after the Kurinji flowers which blossom once in every 12 years) are some of the other popular tourist places in Kodai. While Dindigul with its fort makes for an excellent excursion.

Berijam lake is currently out of bounds unless you get Forest Dept. permission from the Ch. Conservator at Chennai. Gundar Reservoir is a good outing just beyond the observatory. The best season is between Jan and April before the rush starts, cold but it is fresh, clean and crisp air and no crowds . The walk from TV tower to Dolphins Nose via Pambar shola, falls and Vattakanal is a must do.
