Lonar is around 170 kms from Aurangabad and is famous for the crater lake formed by a meteorite impact over 50,000 years ago. This crater is the 3rd largest in the world and the only one of its kind in our country.
The crater has a surface diameter of 1.8 kms and is around 132 mts deep and has a ph of 10.7. The climb down to the crater lake is fun. There is a stony path leading down to the crater. There are around 12 temples along the crater rim. SOme of them are in ruins though.
