My last words here - Arun a fabulous solution, think it will really help balance both quality and democracy, though in an ideal situation both would tally always. Suneel I had a feeling that you were far more mature than what your actions suggest, sorry to add that i too stand disappointed. A round of thanks and congratulations to all. Partha, I think I have a solution to all these controversies. Why not have a Members' choice award from the next time. This will be based on MCs only. As in case of films- we have 2 categories- viewers choice awards and critics awards. So, we will have 2 winners. i dont know about the sponsers and cost analysis...but we can surely avoid such controversies.

This is for OTTBB management, OTTBB has already made a place for itself in www. The members are already getting the e-newsletters... I guess OTTBB would do well by additional propaganda through print media related to travel... any plans ahead?

This is just a question which cropped up in the mind... Since holding of photo contests involve the mobilisation of huge resources and infrastructure resulting in huge financial burden on the organisers, and I believe only a part of it is addressed by the sponsors. Do members think it would be prudent for OTTBB to charge a nominal Entry fee for participating in the contest and do away with MCS? I guess, your views would be of help to the Moderators for contests ahead.

Hi Rupankar, Congratulations!!! As Arun has put it today is the "judgment day". I guess the certificates will soon be reaching you... how n when OTTBB knows better. Yur vus abt the contest is indeed very valid. The contest is one of the ways to increase the viewer ship and hence MCS is important, but I think MCS shud never be disclosed and allowed to rule over talent. the judges views should have a greater weightage & b the ultimate factor for choosing winners.

I had a photo which made it to category final and also have Editor's Mention. SOme certificate was to be issued. When and how they will be issued. It was good to see that some good phtographs had won. But some of the photos which made it to the final were worthless -- a blot on the competition. I feel that rather let it just be on voting, some sort of editors interference was required to weed out bad photos from final.

I hv one suggestion. Pls increase no of entries in next competition.Now I feel I could hv participated in wildlife with my photo of tiger which you hv displayed as click icon in competition .I had already given 5 photos in landscape,byebye and portrait.After that there may be diff elimination processes I don't mind.Simply I want to participate with more no of photos.

Also please everyone, do not make issues personal. things said in anger usually don't lead to any good. I feel urged to answer Lone.. when editor's picks went in, its was obvious that their MCS was low as you have pointed out. to give these selections footing a weighted index score was worked out to create an appropriate MCS where the Editors also voted for these photos. Its a bit complex, but maybe after the contest I could share the formulae with you, Standard stats really.

To all here, thanks for your support. I really hope that everyone enjoyed this contest as much as we did here - energy, the competition & the sheer brilliance of all the entries. Again to all, not everyone goes away happy from any situation, more true maybe from any contest! some win, some equally deserving don't... but what final stands. There is no denial dat sme very befitting entries lost on MCS, &its time 4 all of us 2 realise dat in a contrary situation, we , all of US blabbering out here, wud have had 2 run 4 our money. Ghatotkatch was as much an apple of his mothers eye as ws Cleopatra 2 her mother & there can be no arguments. The only issue of importance has been raised by Lone_Man rest is just immaterial, lets wait 4 an ans from Partha there must have bn som kind of an algorithm by which the MCS were arrived at

all dat OTTBB did I'm sure wasn't with any intention of malice. dat the forum has kept its communication channels open is a proof dat OTTBB is learning from suggestions of members, a sign of true positive growing up. 1 should nt get distracted by irrelevant sequels. A piece of gud work always stands out and cannot be eclipsed. Adding to what Captcha says, I've been surfing the net looking for other online Photo Contest sites, but have unfortunately have found very few as popular as the OTTBB has been, and as far as the moderator participant interaction is concerned none of them is as democratic, as liberal or as cooperative and as transparent as it has been here. Perhaps if OTTBB had not been so transparent, participants would have been better off and satisfied. OTTBB is still an infant and contd.

Welcome to the real world, there's no such thing as a free lunch, yes, they got lots of email IDs, they wanted to expand their user database. Is this something new? Where are the prizes coming from, the sponsors, sponsors get ad space and maybe participant email ids, but I haven't received any spam, yet. Even if they send out some mailers, you will have the right to opt-out of them. Always read the fine print, be aware of what rights you are giving up and what you are accepting.

When there is rampant negative voting and low ranking for perfectly good entries, and you ignore how the rules are being misused, because well "rules are rules", THEN you're being lazy and weak. It's great that the OTTBB team had the courage and made the effort to change the system. With experience, there can be a set of rules which work best in a particular situation and are not amended. This, however, was the first attempt at a public contest and the rules were formulated in good faith.

No one needs to have accreditation to run a contest, and nowhere have they stated they are accredited. There are several accredited photo contests that those who care about accreditation can submit their photos to. As far as rules go, I am glad to see that the user feedback was taken into account, and that rules were changed. Many of us have given our suggestions on this very forum provided by the site.

The photography contest has been everything but fair.there has been bungling and manipulation in th end. I will definately not be a part of future contests and would advice my friends n relatives to refrain.... neither was this contest accredited from any association...and to top it all, rules and regulations were manipulated at will to make certain sections win...no transpareny at all.

After announcing the caterogy finalists, thy added some snaps/videos to respective category...finally ther n the winner list. this is the management skills. thy nicely fool all participents and members (who vote fr us)... their concept is very good and thy provide such a platfrm and p& his team done very hard work frm last two months. hats off to them. But procedure thy adoptd is vry bad. it is creatng doubts on P&team...?

Dear members, whatever the procedure till caterogy finalists is only pubilicity stunt and at the same time they got some thousand of mail ids interms of MCS. They played with paticipents weekness, whoever the participated in this contest, evrybody wants win, so they will forward the link for voting to their near & dear. MCS increases means they are getting publicity. contd...
