Road Trips

Indian Highways have been notorious in the past, for the no. of accidents that used to happen on them. I would not say that have improved a lot but there has been a marginal improvement in terms of the quality of the roads, the quality of traffic i am still unsure about. So if you are a foreigner to India and not very adventerous, my advice to you would be "Don't try to get behind the wheel on the highway".

But, you can always travel with someone who knows his way around these places. I personally prefer to drive to a destination which is within 500 kms of my hometown and believe me
INDIA IS BEST WITNESSED ON THE ROADS, the kind of colour and variety you see on the indian roads is uncomparable to anywhere else in the world. So if you meet a good driver with a well maintained car i would advice to take a road trip in India even if it is for a short distance of 100kms.

Some roadtrips you can make around delhi

Jaipur      250kms

Agra        190kms

Dehradun    280kms (via haridwar or via GT road and Yamunagar)

Mussorie    40kms from dehradun

Mcleodganj  500kms (approx. depending on the route)

Amritsar    450kms

Wagah Border 30kms from Amristar

Shimla      300kms

All distances are approximated and the time to reach depends on the road conditions and your driving average speed.
