Things to do
The shack owners organise New Year parties for their patrons with fireworks, drinks and music.

Get a taste of a secluded beach holiday this New Year’s at Gokarna. Ever wonder what Goa must have looked like, way back in the 70s, before it was over run by tourists (both Indian and foreign)? To live that experience, head to the unspoiled beaches of Gokarna.

Essentially a temple town, Gokarna has acquired much fame these past few years for its unspoilt beaches. Kudle beach is the closest from the main town, just a 20 minutes walk away. The other beaches, Om and Half-Moon, are even further. Remember, you came here to relax and get away from the crowds! Paradise beach is accessible only through a boat ride or by a difficult climb along the cliffs. It is absolutely one of the best beaches in the country, if not in the world.

Good to Know
Temperature 14-32 °C
Clothing Summer wear, light jacket for the evenings
Shopping Main town square, temple entrances

There are numerous beach shacks here. Just put down your feet and relax in the hammocks. Some claim that Gokarna offers better cuisine than even a big, cosmopolitan city like Bangalore. Thanks to the international tourists, the beach front cafes offer Italian, Israeli and French food along with Indian and Chinese.

Bring along a book or your music player and enjoy the lazy pleasures of Gokarna. If you can manage to rouse yourself from your supine state then go for a boat ride in the sea. Three in the afternoon is the best time to spot the dolphins frolicking in the water.

How to reach Gokarana
