| Places to see | Places to stay | How to reach | Fast Facts |

When Maharana Udai Singh established the city of Udaipur in 1557 A.D little did he know that this city would one day earn the sobriquet of ‘one of the most romantic cities of the world’. Though, there are many who may not quite agree to it but ask anyone to name one of the most romantic cities of the world and Lo behold! Udaipur will be one of them.

Lake Pichola, Udaipur

The location of the city, the numerous lakes which has given the city another sobriquet of ‘the Venice of the East' - something which the city shares with another counterpart in the south (Kerala) and the fabulous Lake Palace in the middle of the Lake Pichola had all but endeared the city to the romantics. No wonder, then the city has in recent times has become one of the most favorite destinations to have a wedding or a honeymoon.

And surely a holiday in Udaipur during monsoons is further accentuates the romantic feel. The innumerable lakes and lake palaces make for a pretty sight when rain showers lash this city of romance.

Places to See
Udaipur Temples
Besides its lakes and places, Udaipur is also famous for its temples notably the Eklingji Temple and the Nathdwara temples. While Eklingji- a huge temple complex that houses 108 beautifully sculpted temples dedicated to Shiva - the presiding deity of Mewar rulers is located some 22 km from Udaipur; the 17th century Nathdwara Temple located 48 km from Udaipur is dedicated to Shrinathji or Lord Krishna. The Nathdwara Temple attracts thousands of pilgrims during the Janmashtami festival and is truly a sight to behold. However, foreign tourists are not permitted inside and photography is prohibited. Both these temples were visited by the pop diva Madonna when she was in Udaipur recently.

Get a glimpse about the life of the Maharajas at the majestic City Palace, an architectural masterpiece towering over the lake Pichola. The City Palace is famous for its mahals, courtyards, terraces, corridors and gardens. Then there is the impressive Fateh Prakash Palace with its lavish Durbar Hall, unique Crystal Gallery and corridors lined with paintings from the Mewar School of art. Jag Mandir - the island palace in Lake Pichola an interesting highlight of an Udaipur tour.

Spend some time admiring the roses at the Gulab Bagh and trace the path of the erstwhile royal ladies in the Saheliyon-ki-Bari, a small ornamental garden with fountains, pools and chiseled kiosks in which they used to take a stroll. Witness the beauty of the Udaipur with the setting sun as the background during a boat trip on the enchanting Lake Pichola and cross the beautiful and picturesque Fateh Sagar lake to pay your respect to the brave Maharana Pratap at his memorial and to the brave rulers at Ahar with its profusions of beautiful royal cenotaphs and last but not the least remember to thank the lord for this wonderful holiday at the beautiful Jagdish Temple said to be the largest in Udaipur.

Jaisamand Lake, Udaipur

For more drive 40 km to Haldighati - site of the fierce battle between Maharana Pratap and Emperor Akbar whose forces were being lead by Raja Man Singh of Amer, the brother of Rani Jodha and wife of Akbar. Do make sure to visit the 'chhatri' of Chetak –the Maharana's horse said to be the only ‘chhatri’ dedicated to an animal. Visit the serene Jaisamand Lake (48 km) and the Rajsamand Lake (66 km) for some elaborate cenotaphs of the Mewar rulers. Kumbhalgarh (84 km) - the fort city of the brave Rajput Maharana Kumbha and the second most important city of the Sisodia rulers after Chittorgarh is famous for its fort, palaces, temples and the Victory tower.
