Monsoon Getaways from Kolkata - Bakkhali Beach
| Places to see | Places to stay | How to reach | Fast Facts |

Located some 134 km from the hustle bustle of Kolkata is a rustic beach destination that goes by the name of Bakkhali. A favourite haunt and a popular destination among discerning travellers, Bakkhali is the place to get away from it all. Ideal for those looking for a break. Bakkhali not only breaks monotony but recharges and rejuvenates as well. Though a year around destination; Bakkhali in rains is something that should not be missed. This little beach town south of Kolkata wears a lush green cover as the monsoon clouds lash over the Bay of Bengal.

Bakkhali

Bakkhali is a long and sandy beach that is lapped by the sea waves from the Bay of Bengal. Dense Casuarina groves make for pleasant sight and you may see the numerous Red Fiddler Crabs marching in line on the beach. This is when you reach there but half of the fun in visiting Bakkhali lies in reaching there. As you leave behind the traffic, noise and chaos at Diamond Harbour, the cool breeze of the sea pulls you. There is a shift in the air and the scenery outside changes from concrete building to more open spaces and paddy fields. On the way you cross a number of villages and small markets that seem busy in their own tiny cocoon.
