Mohali also called SAS Nagar is the 18th district of Punjab - a state that is also known as the food bowl of India. Mohali located in the periphery of Chandigarh – the Union Territory and capital city of Haryana and Punjab is just 5 km away from Chandigarh, located between Chandigharh and Kharar on NH 21. Practically a part of Chandigarh, Mohali’s claim to fame is the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium located here. IPL is the most exciting cricket extravaganza, a first of its kind in India and perhaps the most extravagant event in the world of sport. Indian Premier League (IPL) twenty20 championship is launched by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the lines of football’s English Premier League and the National Basketball League (NBA) of the United States. Mohali a well known landmark in Chandigarh will host seven matches, in which “Kings XI Punjab” (the city team) will take on other 7 teams in the league. While it is a great time to visit Chandigarh and watch your favourite cricketers in action at Mohali, there is lot more that you can do in the city. The dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Chandigarh was planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier. Getting there

By Air: Chandigarh is well connected by air with major cities in India. The airport is 12 km from the City Centre. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways connect Chandigarh with Delhi, Leh and Amritsar. Chandigarh is also linked to Delhi by low cost airlines. Taxis are available for airport transfer; you can easily hire one to reach Mohali.

By Rail: Chandigarh is well linked with Delhi and other parts of the country through rail. Chandigarh railway station is 8 km from the city centre in sector 17. The twice-daily Shatabdi Express to Delhi is fast, comfortable and a good option to reach Chandigarh.

By Road: Chandigarh is well-connected by road and there are bus services from various states such as Haryana, Punjab, Himachal, and Delhi. Chandigarh is also gateway to Himachal Pradesh as one can reach hill stations like Kasauli, Chail, Shimla etc within in a few hours drive. Chandigarh is well served by an excellent network of roads. The National Highways No. 21 (Ambala-Kinnaur) and 22 (Chandigarh-Leh) are the chief road arteries linking Chandigarh with the rest of the country.

Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh

Sukhna Lake: A great place for nature lovers, the Sukhna Lake in Sector-1 was created by building an artificial dam on a seasonal stream. The lake is spread over a large area. A 2-km-long promenade along the lakeshore is a popular place to visit in Chandigarh.

Sector 17 Plaza: Chandigarh's sleek shopping area and the city centre, the Sector 17 plaza is a pedestrian's paradise dotted with fountains, sculptures, and groves of trees. During summer season the tourists move from one end of the sector to the other, under the shade of a corridor, and in winter it is nice to be out in the sun-drenched piazzas. As the sun sets, the colorful mosaic of neon signs and the aesthetically illuminated fountains come alive.

Rock Garden: Such is the appeal and fame of the Rock Garden is that if you’ve not visited it you have not seen Chandigarh. Spread over 12 acres near the Capitol Complex the Rock Garden of Chandigarh is the creation of a humble road inspector called Nek Chand, who created a must visit space from the urban waste material. A visit to the Rock Garden is a must for tourists visiting Chandigarh.

Capitol Complex, Chandigarh

Capitol Complex: The monumental Capitol Complex at Sector-1 is a must visit in Chandigarh. Standing majestically at the foothills of the city of Chandigarh, like the Grecian Acropolis, the geometrical concrete buildings rise from the mounds as giant playful sculptures. The places to be visited in the Capitol complex of Chandigarh are the three major buildings of the Secretariat, the Assembly, and the High Court.

Museums: The Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10 has a fine collection of stone sculptures of the Gandhara period and pre-historic fossils & artifacts along with modern art and miniature paintings. The museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and is closed on Monday. The other museums worth visiting are International Doll Museum (closed on Sunday) in Sector-23 and Museum of Evolution of Life (closed on Monday) in Sector-10.

Rose Garden, Chandigarh

Rose Garden and other parks: The Rose Garden in Sector-16 is spread over an area of 25 hectares and is one of the largest in Asia. The garden is home to thousand varieties of roses. Other prominent and worth visiting parks of the Chandigarh city are the Garden of Tranquility, Garden of Rare Plants, Garden of Annuals, the Bougainvillea Garden, Botanical Garden, and the Garden of Aromatic Plants.

Chhatbir Zoo, Chandigarh

Chhatbir Zoo: Great place to visit with kids, the zoo is located on the banks of River Ghaggar, 15 km from Chandigarh city. The zoo lies on the Chandigarh-Patiala Road and is home to a number of animals (the highlight being lion & tiger), birds and reptiles.
It is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

Chandi Devi Temple: The temple is located in Panchkula, 10 km away from Chandigarh. In fact, the name Chandigarh is derived from this temple. Nearby is the temple of Mansa Devi. Both the temples are built in the North Indian style of architecture.

Pinjore Garden: One of the beautiful places to visit near Chandigarh, Pinjore is 20 km from Chandigarh on the route to Kalka. Pinjore is also associated with the Hindu epic Mahabharata as one of the spots where the Pandava brothers rested while in exile. The gardens spread over 100 acres have three palaces built in the Mughal and Rajasthani styles, and numerous fountains and pavilions.

Morni Hills: A beautiful getaway, Morni Hills, 45 km from Chandigarh is a nature park at an altitude of 3,000 feet. Lovely place to connect with nature, here you can try rock climbing and trekking. One can also sight wild deer, the langurs and peacocks.


Kasauli: A charming hill station 77 km away from Chandigarh, Kasauli is a good place to visit. There are numerous lovely walks around Kasauli, including one to Sanawar, another picturesque hill town and the location of a famous colonial college.
